Big Data Analytics and AI for Smart Manufacturing in the Semiconductor Industry

Abstract
The landscape of semiconductor manufacturing is changing rapidly as advanced technologies grow in the number of steps and complexity of the processes used. This has led to exponential growth in the amount of data that is being generated in the factory along with the capabilities for managing and analyzing the data. A critical component of Smart Manufacturing (= Industry 4.0) in semiconductor industry is big data analytics, which requires the integration of subject matter expertise (SME) with advanced machine learning and AI techniques to address the unique challenges in the industry. This presentation will discuss such a big data analytics framework and some use cases of its current implementation.

Biography
Kirk Hasserjian is corporate vice president of Strategic Programs at Applied Materials, Inc. In this role since October 2010, he has driven significant improvements and is leading critical growth programs to improve the company’s future, including driving Applied’s 450mm efforts. He joined Applied in May 2009. Prior to Applied, Mr. Hasserjian served in a variety of technical and management roles, most recently as senior vice president for Global Manufacturing Operations at FormFactor, Inc. He previously spent 25 years at Intel Corporation, where his responsibilities included leading Intel’s Flash memory technology development activities in NOR, NAND and future non-volatile memory technologies. He also held technical and management positions in the company’s D2 development and manufacturing facility, including five years as D2 plant manager managing the facility’s factory performance and all technology module development activities. Mr. Hasserjian received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of San Francisco and a master of science degree in chemical engineering from Stanford University.

Alex is the operative director at appliedAI, Europes largest Initiative for the application of AI, targeting the adoption of AI Technology with 28 Partners (industrial players, technology companies, academia, and public sector). Alex is convinced that AI is one of the most important opportunities and challenges we can and should work on. Before creating appliedAI, Alex has helped build and shape UnternehmerTUM [x], a unit targeting to explore disruptive technologies and building startups. Alex has supported over 300 Startups. Amit Harchandani heads the European Technology Equity Research Team at Citigroup. He has been an Equity Research analyst for close to 10 years, moving to Citi Research in 2011 from Nomura (ex-Lehman Brothers). The breadth and depth of his knowledge as well as his thought leadership has seen him positioned as the only financial analyst at a bulge bracket bank heading coverage of both European Technology sectors - Hardware and Software. His work is quoted in industry and financial press, and he has been interviewed by the media on developments in the European Technology space. His sub-sector expertise spans Semiconductors, Semiconductor Capital Equipment, Communication Equipment, Enterprise Software, and IT Services. At present, he covers stocks including ASML, Capgemini, Dassault Systemes, Ericsson, Infineon, Micro Focus, Nokia, Sage, SAP, Siltronic and STMicroelectronics, having previously also covered ARM, CSR, Software AG and Wolfson.
